Set up MCPress

Install the plugin, connect your AI app and activate Pro. Each guide takes about two minutes.

Install MCPress

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, choose mcpress.zip, then Install Now and Activate.
  2. Open MCPress in the admin menu. The dashboard shows your MCP address, for example https://yoursite.com/wp-json/mcpress/v1/mcp. Copy it.
  3. Check Site checks on the dashboard. Your site must use https, and permalinks must not be "Plain" (Settings > Permalinks > Post name).

Updating? Upload the new zip and choose Replace current with uploaded. Do not delete the old plugin first, or your connections are removed.

Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings > Connectors and click Add custom connector.
  2. Name it "My WordPress" and paste your MCP address. Leave OAuth client ID and OAuth client secret empty. Click Add.
  3. Click Connect, log in to WordPress and press Allow.
  4. Start a new chat and ask. If Claude does not use your site, turn on My WordPress in the tools menu of the message box.

ChatGPT

  1. Open Settings > Apps & Connectors > Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode.
  2. Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create. Paste your MCP address, set Authentication to OAuth and click Create.
  3. Log in to WordPress and press Allow.
  4. In a new chat, click +, choose Developer mode and pick your connector. ChatGPT asks you to confirm each change.

Gemini CLI

The Gemini app in the browser cannot add custom MCP servers, so use Gemini CLI.

  1. Install Gemini CLI, run gemini once and sign in with Google.
  2. Add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"wordpress": { "httpUrl": "https://yoursite.com/wp-json/mcpress/v1/mcp" }
}
}
  1. Start gemini and type /mcp auth wordpress. Log in to WordPress and press Allow.

Cursor

  1. Open Cursor Settings > Tools & MCP and click New MCP server.
  2. Add this to mcp.json and save:
{
"mcpServers": {
"wordpress": { "url": "https://yoursite.com/wp-json/mcpress/v1/mcp" }
}
}
  1. Click wordpress to sign in, then press Allow. Ask in the chat in Agent mode.

VS Code

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac) and run MCP: Add Server.
  2. Choose HTTP, paste your MCP address, name it wordpress and choose Global.
  3. Accept the sign-in, log in to WordPress and press Allow. Use Copilot Chat in Agent mode.

Other apps

Any app that can add a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) with OAuth works. Give it your MCP address and leave client ID and secret empty. For Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http wordpress https://yoursite.com/wp-json/mcpress/v1/mcp

Activate your Pro license

  1. After you buy, your license key arrives by email.
  2. In WordPress, open MCPress > Dashboard, paste the key in License key and click Activate license.
  3. Open MCPress > Features and switch on the Pro features you want. Every Pro feature starts switched off, so nothing changes until you choose.

Troubleshooting

The app says it could not connect

Open the MCPress dashboard and fix anything marked in Site checks. Then remove the connector in your AI app and add it again.

The app asks for a client ID or secret

Leave both empty. MCPress registers the app by itself when you connect.

The AI cannot change the header or footer

Header and footer editing is a Pro feature. Activate your license, then switch on Header and footer editing under MCPress > Features.
